What I Learned About Life From Sports

I used to be a tennis player, teacher, and coach. However, as I moved on in years, I realized that my body was telling me to stop before I hurt myself. I really missed all the fun and exercise I had with my favorite sport. Many years later, I started playing tennis on the Wii Sports Nintendo game.

To have fun with these concepts, imagine that a very large carrot is the tennis racket that you use to hit the big olive, which is the tennis ball, with the hope and intention of sending it in the direction of the opposite court.

As I was running around chasing the tennis olive in my living room, I started to intuitively hear some profound life lessons to share with you. I noticed how helpful they were to offer insights and solutions on how to live a happier, more successful and fulfilled life. These important concepts can be applied to all sports. They helped me become a pro on the Wii and in life. The lessons can also greatly improve your game of life. Enjoy!

Self-coaching 1: When I miss the tennis olive, I can say to myself: “I am a failure; I am not very good at this; the other team is too good for me; I will quit trying; this is too hard; I am not good enough; and/or I will never improve.” Can you relate?

If I am aware of what I am saying, I can choose to coach myself in a positive way by thinking or saying out loud; “I will keep practicing; I am good enough; I am improving; and I am doing this well.”

It would also be helpful to ask myself what did not work that time, and how can I do better and succeed? To learn from the experience, I can analyze how I can hold and swing my carrot more effectively, and whether or not it would be better to hit the olive sooner or later.

Life Lesson 1: Observe what is working in your life and what is not. Instead of giving up, or making the same mistakes and getting the same results, explore ways to be more successful. For example, if your conversation with your partner, child, boss, or friend did not go well, find out how you can improve your communication to have a better experience or outcome.

Self-coaching 2: On the Wii Sports game, tennis is a doubles match. I was upset with my partner playing at the net. She did nothing while I ran all over the living room struggling against the computer team. Two against one is unfair! Frustrated, I ate the carrot and olive.

One day, I told my nine-year-old granddaughter my dilemma. To my surprise, she said, “Grandma, you also need to swing your partner’s carrot at the net.” I had a good laugh, as I realized that all along I had control of both of my players.

Life Lesson 2: How many times do we feel like a victim when we actually have control of our lives? We are often quick to blame someone, or something else for our situation, when we really do have the power to change it.

Gym Gloves Could Stop You Picking Up Harmful Bacteria In The Gym

Think about this for a second, how many people do you ever see wiping down the handles and grips of exercises machines they use?

Yes, most well educated gym goers will clean the surfaces of benches and seats that they come in to contact with, but most of us simply don't think to wipe down the surfaces that we actually take hold of with our hands and this could be one of the biggest factors responsible for passing around many types of germs and bacteria from person to person. Wearing gym gloves could help combat this by forming a barrier between your hands and the things that you and other folks take hold of.

Whilst it is true that sweat itself from other people poses no threat to you at all, the bacteria and germs that it carries however most certainly can do. These germs are the ones responsible for all manner of illness such as stomach upsets, colds or viruses etc.

The main thing to watch out for is that you don't touch your mouth, eyes or nose with your hands. Now this is far easier said than done and most of time you'll probably do this without even thinking about it. To be safe totally safe, you'd need to wash your hands after every set or exercise that you did … something that is obviously not practical to do.

However there is a far more obvious solution. By wearing gym gloves, you can ensure that no sweat get's in to contact with the skin on your hands. The gloves will be the part touching any sweat left on weights by others and not your skin.

Did you know on average we lose at least 1 liter of sweat every day and this is increased enormously if you work out in the gym for any amount of time. You don't need to worry about your own sweat as it is an odorless cooling agent which helps to regulate your body's temperature. In fact studies carried out in Germany recently show that some of the protein found in sweat may actually kill off one strain of bacteria. However other studies carried out by scientists in Demark pointed to a conclusion that sweat is the perfect breeding ground for superbugs.

Either way, it is better to be on the safe side and protect yourself and the skin on your hands and just wear the gym gloves in the first place. They can help to improve the control you have over the weights you use, may support your wrists and fingers and above all protect the skin on your hands meaning you're far less likely to suffer from blisters and calluses.

Are Chin Implants at Risk If One Participates in Sports?

A chin implant is the standard treatment for a weak or short chin. It is tremendously effective, very simple to perform, and a wide variety of sizes and shapes of implants are available to use. While chin augmentation is performed in both men and women, it is done more frequently in patients under the age of 40.

This younger age group is also commonly engaged in numerous sports activities. Many of these sports activities can involve contact to the face, whether it be intentional or inadvertent. If one has a chin implant, does participation in these sports place it at risk for problem should the face be traumatized?

It is of interest then to know whether chin implants can become fractured or fragmented from traumatic impact. None of the manufacturers could provide any information about this potential. Therefore, I testing them using the ASTM (American Society of Testing Materials) drop test. I have previously used this method to test the fracture potential for cranioplasty materials. Using an 8 lb. weight dropped from five feet, silicone, PTFE (Gore-tex) and Medpor chins were tested. Silicone and PTFE implants were unaffected, a Medpor chin did develop a fracture.

This drop test, however, does not really replicate what would happen with a chin implant in a human. With the implant up against the bone, the impacting force is transmitted to the underlying bone. As a result, the implant does not absorb the entire force alone or without the support of an underlying framework. Therefore, implant fracture is highly unlikely unless the impacting force is of such a magnitude that the bone would fracture.

What is more likely from trauma is that the chin implant may become shifted or moved. Chin implant shifting or migration is a well known complication which can occur even in the absence of being traumatized. It would make sense therefore to protect the implant from that potential in the young athletic male or female. This can be done by simple screw fixation of the implant to the bone during surgery.

Screws can easily be placed through the implant to the underlying bone. But a single screws can act as a pivot point. Therefore, two screws placed in a parasagittal fashion would make it virtually impossible for it to ever shift position after surgery. One could argue that a single midline screw may be just as sufficient, but it is just as easy to place two screws as one.

If a patient is concerned about their risk of chin implant problems from athletic participation, screw fixation is a simple prevention measure. They can be easily placed whether the implant is placed from inside the mouth or under the chin.

Side Effects are Quite Serious in the use of Influenza Vaccine

Side effects are quite serious in the use of influenza vaccine

When you use influenza vaccine you need to know all the effects and side effects. After you know some of the symptoms of side effects that are indeed common, it turns out that there are still some influenza vaccine side effects that are rare but quite serious. If you experience it immediately consult a Doctor in Yishun to get treatment.

Side Effects are Quite Serious in the use of Influenza Vaccine

  1. High fever

Although fever is a very normal effect after vaccination, body temperature over 38 ° C is something you should worry about. If you experience this, immediately go to Yishun clinic or the nearest doctor to get further treatment.

  1. Anaphylactic

Anaphylactic is an allergic reaction that can cause fainting to death. This disorder is very rare after immunization. However, if you experience the following symptoms, consult the GP in Yishun to find out what to do.

  • Fast and weak heart rates
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Rashes on the skin
  • Loss of consciousness
  1. Other allergic reactions

In certain cases, the side effects of influenza vaccine can cause quite serious allergic reactions, such as:

  • Itchy
  • Swelling
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Faster heart rate
  • Dizzy
  • The body feels lethargic

This symptom is categorized as a quite dangerous side effect. If you experience this condition, immediately go to the emergency room for further treatment.

  1. Guillain-Bare Syndrome

Guillain-bare syndrome (GBS) is a neurological condition when the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves, so the nervous system becomes inflamed. This can result in muscle weakness to paralysis.

These side effects usually occur in people who have a history of this disease before. Reporting from cdc.gov, the overall estimated risk of GBS after injection is less than 1 to 2 GBS cases per 1 million vaccinated people. Other studies have not found an association with flu vaccination with the incidence of GBS.

Therefore, ask your doctor in advance whether this vaccine can be done or not, given the impact that is quite risky.

In conclusion, the side effects of influenza vaccine are not so dangerous. Most of the symptoms are general in nature and only last for a short time. However, for some people, there are quite serious side effects and special treatment from a doctor is needed so that the condition does not worsen.

Penis Rash From the Gym: Work Out Without the Itch

Working out at the gym – now that’s something that makes a guy feel good! Sure, there’s sweat and effort, but it pays off when a guy looks in the mirror and sees the results. (And it helps that a guy’s partners like to see the results, too.) What isn’t so positive is when a guy ends up with a little penis rash from his visits to the gym. Since penis health should never be sacrificed for getting buffed, it pays to take steps to prevent a penis rash from the gym (and to treat it if one sneaks in anyway).

Not unusual

It’s no surprise that a penis rash sometimes crops up among gym rats (or even just the guy who occasionally stops in for a workout). The physical outlay, whether from taking a yoga class, hitting the weights or spending time on a bike, brings about sweat, and sweat encourages bacteria. In addition, some men with very sensitive penis skin can get rashy just from exposure to too much heat. And of course there’s the problem of germs, bacteria and fungi brought onto the premises by other gym residents.

Tips

So the conditions are ripe for penis rash development. What are some steps a guy can take to help protect his penis?

– Use towels. Nowadays, most gyms are generous in making available a large supply of fresh, clean towels and guys need to use them. (If towels aren’t supplied by the gym, a guy needs to be sure to bring his own.) Many men use these towels to wipe down machines after they have used them, which is good; but they also need to wipe them down before use – just in case the previous guy wasn’t so thoughtful or missed some sweaty residue.

But it isn’t enough to use those towels when on the gym floor. Be sure to use them in the locker room, too. Lay one down on the bench before sitting, especially after removing clothes. And guys who like to relax in the sauna or steam room in the nude should definitely bring a towel and sit on that. With all the bare feet in locker rooms, any guy with athlete’s foot may be accidentally spreading his fungus around the area – and that’s the same fungus that causes jock itch.

– Be selfish. We’re taught as children that sharing is important, but it’s okay to be a little selfish when it comes to the gym. If a man lends a guy a towel, it might come back with a fungus on it. Let some dude borrow that razor and the owner may regret it – especially if he decides to do a little manscaping with it later on and end up with a rash. Even something as seemingly harmless as sharing soap can be problematic; guys with sensitive skin can develop an allergic reaction to skin cells left on the cleanser. Never borrow another guy’s jock or underwear; that’s just begging for a penis rash!

– Keep fresh. A man shouldn’t start his workout in that same t-shirt and shorts he wore to mow the lawn or rake the leaves. Starting off with sweaty clothing, especially clingy underwear and shorts, will increase the rash potential at the gym. Use fresh clothes for the workout and bring along another set of fresh clothes (including underwear) for after the shower – and be sure to dry the man-parts off thoroughly after showering.

A guy will also be less likely to pick up a penis rash at the gym if his manhood is kept in tiptop shape. Regular use of a top notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help. Definitely select a crème that includes vitamin A. Also known as retinol, vitamin A has fierce antibacterial properties that attack the bacteria that thrive in dark, warm, moist places. The crème should also include a combination of moisturizers, such as natural Shea butter and vitamin E, which can lock-in the healthy moisturizing oils that keep skin from becoming chapped and prone to rashiness.

Benefits of Sports Massage

Sports massage is in high demand by athletes around the world on a daily basis. This type of massage has been used for many years for professional athletes to help them increase performance and reduce the risk of injury.

There are numerous benefits associated with sports massage, which is why it's essential you consider this type of therapy prior and after an event, whether you're taking part in a marathon, playing for a local team or are a professional athlete about to take part in an international competition or game.

Sports massage can improve tissue permeability, help with stretching and break down any scar tissue. It also improves elasticity, reduces pain and helps with relaxation.

Most athletes will put their bodies through severe workouts, putting extra strain on their muscles and connective tissues. This is why it's imperative that you follow a proper warm up before you start training and you give your muscles time to cool down. Failure to follow this procedure can result in serious problems moving forward, including minor injuries, lesions, tendon tears and more.

When it comes to sports massage you will find that it can help increase athletic performance and reduce muscle fatigue. Your muscles are cared for through professional massage, ensuring that you can perform at your best at all times.

If you find you are overexerting your muscles on a daily basis, the chances of your muscles swelling and causing pain is increased. This pain can reduce your performance considerably, making it exceptionally painful to train or even take part in an event. Sports massage can help reduce the risk of muscle swelling, helping you perform at your peak at all times.

Further you will find that minor injuries and lesions risk is considerably increased when it comes to overexertion of the body. Sports massage can help reduce this risk while increasing flexibility.

In the event you find yourself with a sports injury which is reducing your performance or stopping you from training completely, you will find this particular therapy can help speed up the recovery time, enabling you to get back to training quickly and effectively, depending on the severity of the injury involved.

Another benefit you find when it comes to sports massage is that through this therapy you can improve your range of motion, which can help enhance your athletic performance on a daily basis.

If you are in the process of training for a big event, whether it's the football match of the season or you're taking part in a marathon, it's advisable to speak to your sports massage therapist to identify when you should have your therapy. In most instances you will have your sports massage prior to the event to ensure your body is performing at its best and then again after the event, increasing recovery time and helping your muscles relax after being put through their paces.

It is imperative when it comes to sports massage that you choose a therapist who has years of knowledge and experience when it comes to this type of therapy. They should work alongside you to advise you, direct you and help you to perform at your best at all times.

Choose a therapist that can provide a host of therapeutic massage solutions, not just sports massage, enabling you to use the same therapist whether you have a pulled muscle or torn ligament or you just need a relaxing deep tissue massage to help you reduce pain and improve range of motion moving forward.

What Are the Exercises for Total Gym?

If you want a full-body workout, you should consider exercises for Total Gym. By using your body weight, you can have a full upper body and lower body workout. These exercises also include core exercises that can be performed at different intensities. Here are a few exercises for Total Gym:

  1. Squat. This particular exercise targets your calves, quadriceps, hamstrings and most of your core muscles. To do this, you need to lie on a bench. Position your feet a shoulder-width apart and then start to lower your upper body downward, bending your legs accordingly. Drive through your heels and then resume your starting position. Repeat as desired.
  2. Torso Twist. It is best to do this while kneeling down because this will involve your oblique muscles and possibly all of your core muscles. Start the routine by kneeling down on the glide board. Grab a handlebar with both your hands and then start to contract your abs by pulling the handlebar in order to allow the glide to move upward. Make sure that you keep your back flat while you go through this routine. Resume the starting position and repeat this routine as you desired. You can perform this exercise for both sides.
  3. Back Row. This exercise will help you build your upper back muscles, shoulders and biceps. To do this exercise, you need to first sit or kneel on the equipment’s glide board. You have to make sure that you are facing the pulley system. Grab the handlebars with each hand and then lie flat on your back. Start to draw your shoulders back until you have your arms bent. Hold the position while you continue to contract your upper back. Return to starting position. Repeat the exercise as desired.
  4. Chest Fly. This particular exercise targets your shoulders, triceps and pectorals. To do this, you first have to lie flat on the glide board and then grab a handlebar in each of your hands. Make sure that your elbows are slightly bent as you bring the handlebars toward each other. Hold the position as you contract your chest muscles and then return to the original position. Repeat the exercise as you desire.

These are just some of the best exercises for Total Gym. There are other exercises that you can do. These routines will help you make the most out of the Total Gym while you try to build a stronger body.

How to Deal With the Top 5 Annoying People at the Gym

The gym is an excellent place to work out for many reasons. For me, it’s because of the vast amount of free weights and equipment and the hardcore atmosphere that feels particularly motivating for me.

The problem with working out at the gym is, it is after all a public venue. This means the moment you decide to sign up for a gym membership you will have to co-exist with the other gym members and deal with whatever peculiarities they have. This can prove to be very challenging especially when you are at the gym working hard on exercising to reduce tummy and the presence of some others are making it hard for you to do so.

I’ve seen how many people give up going to the gym or stopped following their training program because of some bad encounters they have at the gym. Moving from one gym to another doesn’t help because some of these annoying people exist everywhere.

In today’s post, I will list down some of the top 5 most annoying people you might see at the gym and how you can deal with them – if you have to.

The Chatterbox:

Every gym has at least one of them. This individual (sometimes a few of them) goes to the gym primarily to socialize, bitch, gossip and basically do anything but exercise. This person would chat with you between sets and if you get caught in the conversation, you lose track of your rest periods. Then your body and muscle cools down and you are no longer in the zone to lift your next set. Your workout gets ruined.

Sometimes this person would gossip about you – your clothes, your body part, your exercise technique, etc – and deliberately let you hear it. It makes you conscious about yourself and you lose concentration.

While there’s nothing wrong with socializing, we should lose track of our main reason for going to the gym. Having an extended rest period can affect your training intensity and your focus on the next set. This is definitely not what you want to achieve especially if you exercising to reduce tummy. Remember, you can always socialize after your workout.

Solution: If you know the person, try keeping the chat within a minute or no longer than your usual rest period. If the chat goes beyond, gradually assume the position of your next exercise, smile and carry on with your exercise. Most people will get the point.

If they talk about you, glance at them and make sure they notice you. Let them know you heard them and continue with your workout. Who gives a s**t about what the others think? This is your work out!

The Hogger:

The people at my gym are generally very friendly and willing to share their equipment in between sets. But occasionally we have one or two of these possessive weirdos who simply won’t share and insists on completing their exercise before anyone can use it.

If they have just a few sets left, that’s fine. What’s unforgivable is that they are hogging the equipment for the wrong exercise. Don’t know what I mean? Here’s an example:

Imagine someone hogging the squat rack to do biceps curl with the Olympic bar. The reason they need the squat rack is because they can rest the bar at the rack so that it’s easier for them to pick it up at the next set… (long pause for effect). And by the way, in case you think these are strong people who need the Olympic bar to curl massive weights, you couldn’t be more wrong. They are just curling an empty bar.

Hoggers are not just restricted to the weights section. The worst Hoggers are those on the treadmill. Because it’s impossible to share the treadmill, users should be even more considerate and be conscious of the time they spend on the machine. Even though it’s clearly stated that each user is limited to 30 minutes on the treadmill, some continue on, completely oblivious to the people waiting behind. And check this out, some even have the newspapers nicely laid out in front of them as they take a stroll on the treadmill while holding onto the handles…

As you patiently wait for your turn on the treadmill, homicide at this point inevitably comes to mind.

Solution: If they are using the machine for any other exercise than what it’s meant for, politely tell them that there’s an alternate machine that they can use. Usually this works. Otherwise, ask them to share. The switching of weights will eventually make one party give up. Usually it’s them.

The Moaner:

I bet you can find one of these in every gym as well. Their voices echo throughout the entire gym. You know exactly …

Turf Seeds for All Your Sports

Turf seeds, in general, are used for leisure, landscape, and sports, however, sports constitute the largest share of all the uses. Such seeds are used in a number of sports, be it cricket, golf, football, baseball, etc. There are various types of seeds, each suited for a different sport, for instance, the most preferred varieties for golf are Ryegrass, Creeping Bentgrass, Bermuda Grass, Zoysia Grass, etc. There are several types in the market, like Creeping Bent Grass, Blue Kentucky Grass, Tall Fescue Grass, Rye Grass, Bermuda Grass, Zoysia Grass, Bahia Grass, and others.

Does this market for sports turf seed offer any benefits?

The demand for them is a derived demand for turf-based sports fields, and with increasing number of tournaments, including the yearly Indian Premier League (IPL), the demand for it has been increasing rapidly over the years. There are a number of factors that make a natural turf field superior to an artificial one, some of the factors are stated below:

• soil restoration and improvement

• noise abatement and glare reduction

• heat dissipation and temperature moderation

• surface water protection

However, with the growing trend of synthetic fields around the world, the growth of the market has somewhat slowed down.

What is the scenario for such a niche market?

A report by a market research firm estimates a 10.2% CAGR for the global sports turf seed market, which was worth USD 836.7 million in 2015.

What we are observing globally, in terms of sports turf seeds, is that the world trade of turf grass seed revolves around five major players. The United States is by far the largest producer and exporter of grass seed in the world. This is followed by the EU15 as a whole, then Canada and New Zealand follow. The other nations of significance in the market are Argentina and the Czech Republic.

The main hurdles for the global turf seed market are; falling yield, rapid adoption of artificial turf, and rising costs of growing turf seeds.

However, with increasing number of research studies ongoing for the development of drought tolerant and other types of turfs around the world. For instance, Grass Traits and Varieties (GTV) program represents research on a wide breadth of target traits for grass cultivars in the United Kingdom, it is expected that new and better varieties are likely to be developed in the future, which may further drive market growth.

Review of the Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200

The Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 is one of the first considerations for people who are looking to build a house gym. This is because of its great features which will be looked at in this article.

Basic details
This stack gym weighs a total of 150 pounds and measures 62x41x81 inches. Some people find the height too much especially if they do not have such a high ceiling. The Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 comes with a limited warranty for 2 years.

The set comes with a fixed leg attachment. It also has a lat tower that comes with a lat bar. The bar is curved so you can also use it for your triceps. There is a short bar that can be placed on the topmost cable if you would like to work out your triceps with it. You can also place the bar on the lower cable so you can stay on the floor and do row workouts.

The Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 also has attachments that can be purchased for an extra cost. One of these is the handle for one-armed dumbbell curls.

This home gym makes use of cables. Everything, from the chest press and the lat bar to the leg extensions, works from cables. The total weight is 150 lbs. You can get more weight by purchasing little bricks of different weights.

Pros of the Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200
The Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 does not cost that much compared to other home gyms. It will only cost you $300 to get one of these. While the whole set is pretty tall and needs a high ceiling, the rest of it does not take up that much room.

The cables also run quietly and smoothly. You will find satisfaction whether you are doing lateral pull downs or leg curls. It may not be perfect for everybody but this is a good workout companion if you are on a strict budget.

The Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 also boasts its sturdiness. You cannot easily move or push it like other home gyms. It also comes with a thick padding that is very comfortable. The seat has more width by the front so it keeps your legs comfortable. There is a 32-inch back padding that is comfortable as well.

Cons of the Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200
While there are plenty of great things about this home gym, you do miss out on some functions. For instance, you do not have that many workout options for your legs. You can also purchase dumbbells if you wish to do lunges. There are only two foam rollers for the leg extension; other gyms have four or six.

Before you purchase the Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 or any home gym, consult your doctor first. Keep children far from the fitness machines. The Impex Marcy Platinum PM 3200 works great for anybody who is working out just for the fitness. Professional athletes can go with better models.

  23. Have you seen yourself on video in the last ninety days?
  24. Are you grateful for your opportunity to master a sport or a skill?
  25. Do you have a technique to move from choking to the zone?
  26. Are you having fun competing and practicing?
  27. Do you set short and long term measurable goals and objectives?
  28. If you are a religious or spiritual person, do you use prayer as part of your training and as part of your pre-game routine?
  29. How well do you manage the highs and lows that are a part of any challenge?
  30. How is your relationship with your coaches, teammates and colleagues?
  31. Do you practice meditation, visualization, guided imagery or visualization prior to competing and when you practice?

“Ideally, I like to see athletes with scores of 8.5 on most of the above. Being eighty five per cent ready, is usually enough to produce fine performances. So, a perfect score on this test is about 263.5 If you get this score, there is a good chance that you are in a mental frame of mind that will allow you to perform well.

If you discover weaknesses that are causing you to lose matches and tournaments, you need to develop strategies and techniques to overcome these deficiencies.

It is hard to make these kinds of changes on your own. A sport psychologist, coach or mentor can often be quite helpful in building confidence, reducing anxiety, improving focus and in showing you how to enter the zone more often.

If your scores are very low, you can probably benefit from some counseling, mental toughness training or training in self-hypnosis.

Pros and Cons of Buying and Using Multi-Gym Units

Some people prefer multi-gym units to free weights or other options because they are convenient, safer than free weights, and very easy to use. Many of them even come with details directions and demonstration DVDs. They look like someone took a bunch of gym machines and combined them together, and that’s what they basically are.

A few things you should know about these units. They are relatively large and expensive. Make sure you have enough room to fit them comfortable, which for many people means room in the basement. They also cost around $800 up to several thousand dollars, which is a bargain if you actually use them for many years.

Check the construction. They should have a very stable frame that doesn’t wobble. Upholstery should be securely and evenly sewn on. Make sure all the parts look sturdy and the weight stacks adjust easily and smoothly. Try several exercises on the multi-gym. Make sure the machine adjusts easily and appropriately to your size. Does it have all the exercises you prefer?

Also check the warranty. The frame should have a multi-year warranty and the rest of the machine at least 2+ months. You may be able to get a extended warranty merely by asking, but if not, they are rarely worth purchasing.

Also check on assembly. Most dealers will assemble and set up the gym for you although sometimes you need to ask. Ask before you buy!

Multi-gym units can be great investments if you choose a good unit, and of course if you use it! You don’t want it gathering dust like many abandoned exercise machines.

Learning English Impacts Sports – Importance of Learning English For Athletes

You are watching television. You see your favorite foreign boxer, Manny Pacquiao, who again just knocked out a titled contender. With a bloodied face and a dislocated nose, the opponent is still uncoordinated from the dizzying blows he received. You rise from your seat and shout in victory with your idolized athlete. And then, after the initial victory cries and congratulations, it is now time for the interview.

The interviewer asks, “So Manny, what can you tell us about your fight?”

Manny answers, “I umm.. ahh.. am happy about fight.”

Your favorite champion stutters and speaks in an English you cannot understand. You are disappointed and your confidence and awe for him is diminished. Indeed, in news, statistics, interviews and write-ups – the English language dominates the world of Sports.

Here are the reasons why learning English is important for the sports athlete:

  • As an athlete grows in achievements and fame, he is more exposed globally with fans that come from different countries and with different nationalities as well. With English as the most spoken language in the world, being able to express one’s self with an easy to understand English enables the athlete to communicate more effectively to fans. Moreover, he can reach more people, express his passion, and even educate listeners through his experiences.
  • Having a good grasp of English lets an athlete communicate better with his staff and coach. It is not uncommon for athletes who are non-native English speakers to have coaches and managerial or promotional staff who have English as their native language.
  • Learning English lets athletes have more opportunities to make money through advertisements. Most international companies like Nike use English as their medium for advertisements. It is common that they take in international sports athletes for their advertisements – sometimes requiring these non-native English speakers to utter a few lines to promote their products. Having a good grasp of English or at least an acceptable accent makes the athlete and the product he endorses more saleable. It will be difficult for people to buy sports drink from a sports figure who cannot even pronounce the product correctly.
  • It makes travelling and staying in other countries more enjoyable and comfortable. It is quite difficult and a bit of a drag to have a translator always following you around. You also do not get to talk to your promoters and business partners directly. It is possible that you may miss out on important details that your translator may fail to include in his translation.

Athletes must therefore not only excel in the sports they do – adding good English to their repertoire may not increase the level of their athletic performance. But, the English language will certainly add to their reputation, fame, salability to the public and the satisfaction of their fans who want to know them better. Learning English is easy and hiring a tutor is something a successful athlete can easily afford. For athletes who are just starting with their careers, learning through online English courses is an affordable option and can be of great help in the future.

I am sure your fans will be more than willing to buy “Red Bull,” and not really your “Red Burr.”

How about Manny Pacquiao? His English is improving now – he is aware that he needs to learn the English language, the current lingua franca of the world.

The True Secret to Long-Term Success in the Gym – For Beginners

There are no healthy "get buff quick" schemes when it comes to bodybuilding. Just like the natural formation of a mountain, it is a slow process. The industry professionals who are at peak performance have spent years or even decades building their perfect bodies. But, you may be asking, "How does this apply to me"?

Well, Jim (I'm just hoping that someone reading this article will be named Jim because that would be sweet) this applies to you because no matter what your goals are in the gym, it's going to take you time to get there. Not only time, but also consistency and that's what I'm here to talk to you about today.

Consistency doesn't only mean going to the gym on a regular basis. It also means putting in a consistent amount of effort into every workout and being consistent with your tracking and growth. Let me explain.

Going to the gym on a regular basis is a huge part of reaching your fitness goals. If you take long breaks from going to the gym, say 3 weeks, this can severely hinder your progress. Not only have you lost those 3 weeks of muscle gain that you could have had by going to the gym, but you are also going to lose a portion of the muscle you had already built. This is due to your inactivity. If your muscles aren't being stimulated to grow on a regular basis, you are going to hinder your gains in the long run. So lesson one is to stick with your gym regiment.

There are no "cheat days" when it comes to your workouts. You need to bring the same or greater intensity to each and every workout. Always trying to increase the amount of weight you lift or the amount of reps you do. If you aren't going to bring your full and energetic self to each and every workout, you aren't going to have the long-term success that others may have. It's important to stay committed each and every workout. None of these half days where you just don't feel like doing the work or sessions where you spend half the time on your phone. Now don't get me wrong, every so often our bodies can't handle the amount of stress we put on ourselves in the gym. It's important to listen to your body and give it the rest it needs. I strongly recommend implementing deload weeks into your workout regiment where you do lighter weights than normal, work on form, and give your body some extra time to recover. Lesson 2 is be consistent in the intensity of your workout.

The most successful people in bodybuilding are the ones who track all of the weights they lift and everything they eat. This gives them a strong benchmark to work against and improve on. On a week to week basis it is very hard to remember how much weight you lifted and for how many reps for every given exercise. My advice? Get a small note pad or make a spreadsheet in which you can record your workouts. Track everything and try to improve on a workout to workout basis. One of the most important factors in bodybuilding success is diet. You need to count your macros and ensure you are getting enough protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Consistency in your diet is what's going to make your progress faster and give you better long-term results.

In closing I hope you can see the important role that consistency plays in building muscle over the long-term. It may take a little extra effort at first, but once you get consistent you will stay consistent. I wish you all the best in your fitness journey and remember when it comes to fitness, consistency is king.

How Sports Bars Remain Successful In America

For many, sports bars can be a great place to go with friends, co-workers and loved ones. However, not all bars are created equal! There are key factors that really make one stand out from the other; that makes one bar successful and the other… not so much.

BEER SELECTION

Many avid beer drinkers would emphatically say that the obvious answer to a great sports bar would be the beer! That may be only part of the answer, but these beer enthusiasts are absolutely right! Successful sports bars are known to have a myriad of beers to choose from to keep their customers happy and their thirst quenched. Let’s face it, we Americans love to have options! And these days, more and more craft beers are on the market for people to choose from too! A sports bar that provides what their patrons like, is a bar that aims to stay in business. As with any business, it’s important to know what your customers want and fill that need – Supply and Demand!

FLAT SCREEN TV’s

This is an absolute must! Ever been to a sports bar that doesn’t have a TV? Of course not! Every sports bar should have multiple TV’s throughout the establishment. The larger the bar, the more flat screens they should have. Larger bars should have flat screens on every wall; customers should be able to actually see a flat screen no matter where they are in the bar (except the restroom of course!). People come here to watch their favorite sports teams; whether it be baseball, football, NASCAR, hockey or any other sport… customers want to watch the game! There’s also no doubt that customers want to be around friends and other people rooting for their home-team; it’s the camaraderie!

GAMES

Most successful bars have at least a couple of games for customers to enjoy while visiting. You’ll find many bars that have at least a couple of pool tables and/or dart boards. If it’s a larger sports bar, they may also have shuffleboard tables and video games like Poker and Blackjack games. Some sports bars even offer Poker Night and Pool Leagues, Dart Leagues and Shuffleboard Leagues. Trivia games have also become more popular over the years and are generally only held once per week or every other week.

HAPPY HOUR

This is somewhat of a no-brainer, but most bars have Happy Hour! Even though happy hour is phrased in the singular, many bars host happy hour for 2-3 hours or more! They not only offer a discount on favorite beers and beers on tap, they also provide many drink specials to their patrons. A successful bar may change these drink specials up every now and then; they keep a close eye on what people are buying. They find it equally important to pay close attention to what local competition may be doing.

AMBIANCE

It’s not just the trendy nightclubs that are scrutinized by patrons, but even local sports bars are judged by their ambiance. Great bars have a certain vibe when people walk in for the first time, and that first impression can make all the difference in the world. It’s the sports photos on the walls, the lighting, the layout of the tables, the pool tables, the flat screens all over with multiple games on; it’s everything that encompasses what people expect in an awesome sports bar.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Any Realtor who’s worth their weight will tell you that Location Is Everything! This certainly holds true when it comes to where these bars are located in relation to getting customers. Larger establishments need to be in an area that’s going to pull higher traffic. Smaller sports bars in a small town; they can still prove to be successful just by gaining customers from their immediate local market.

MARKETING

Every new business hopes that it will succeed based on a line from the movie “Field Of Dreams”… “If you build it, they will come.” However, the reality quickly sets in when it comes to running a sports bar. As with any business, successful bar owners know that marketing equates to new business. These business owners utilize variable marketing strategies to engage new customers and retain current customers. Most bar owners don’t have the time or the know-how to do this on their own, so quite often they retain the services of a professional marketing company. They know it’s vitally important to cater to repeat customer (the regulars), but they know that marketing is the integral factor that will continue to bring new business.

How To Join a Gym

Joining a gym is important for your health. Here is my advice, do not join the gym in January; sounds odd? Because of the New Year event, gyms are crowded in January and everyone is offering you cheap membership plans to get you in.

In this article, I want to share some tips with you.

Gyms are located all around the world. Still, it is difficult to find a gym that is suitable for you. You are unique and only something unique will work for you. Everyone is different and every gym is different. In every city, there are a large number of gyms and slimming centers. Go to Google map and type the keyword “gyms” and your address into it. You will see the number of gyms located near you. Note their phone numbers and addresses.

Now, they are located near you. You can check them by visiting them. It is better not to waste your time. Make some calls. The tone of receptionist will tell whether you should join this specific gym or not.

Ask about their services.

Their timing.

Moreover, their charges, fees, and membership plan.

Also visit their sites. Ask your neighbors, if they have been to that specific gym.

Are they clear about their fee plans? Or they say they will design a fee plan when you visit them?

Note down the answers. Select 5 gyms and visit them. Look at their environment, equipments, and their mentors. Every gym manages some classes, health seminars, and competition. Every gym should give you a free trial; may be for a day or a week. Use this trial. If you finished your trial on Monday, visit the gym on Thursday and see how it looks now.

Select three gyms, visit them, and choose the best one from them. It will give you the option to do the necessary comparisons between these gyms. After all, if a gym is providing 50$ a month membership and the other one is asking you to pay 25$ a month; which one should you use?

Well, it depends on many factors.

If you think a gym provides best quality, you will spend a great amount on its expenditures. On the other hand, a gym can provide you best service at a meager cost. It depends.

In a nutshell, how are you going to choose your gym?

  • Search the Google
  • Make some phone calls
  • Ask your neighbors
  • Visit 3 to 5 gyms and select the best one

Best of luck!
